With the millions of unknown calls screened by Genie, we thought it would be important to share the most common phone numbers to beware of, with the hope of keeping you protected.

We are counting down the top 4 scam callers that Genie has blocked recently.

#4: 888-450-1291 - Scammer selling bathroom upgrade

This number belongs to a scammer that calls and attempts to steal your private information and money under the false pretense of upgrading your bathroom. There have been many reported occurrences of these tricksters deceiving and taking advantage of their “customers”.

If you don't have Genie to block this number for you, then make sure you block this number manually.

#3: 844-986-3881 - Spam robocaller selling “life Insurance”

This number cold calls people with offers of “great life insurance plans”. According to the online source Legal & General, “If you receive a cold call from someone claiming to be from a life insurance company, you should be wary. Fraudsters may call you on the telephone to try and obtain your personal details – this is known as 'vishing' (a combination of 'voice' and 'phishing'). They may use this information to trick you into believing that they’re calling from a genuine life insurance company in order to try and scam you into clicking an email link, or revealing information like your passwords or PIN.” Best practice if you are looking for a genuine life insurance company do research and initiate contact yourself rather than responding to a random cold call.

#2: 646-787-9098 - Scammer claiming you won a sweepstakes

This scammer is attempting to lure in individuals by claiming they are winners of a sweepstakes. AARP reports that “Sweepstakes and lottery scams have been around for a long time, and they’re still going strong. In 2021, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) received more than 148,000 reports of fraud involving prizes, sweepstakes and lotteries, up 27 percent from the year before. Victims collectively lost $255 million.” They promise you grand prizes that you will receive after providing them with some information, but, the truth is these people are after your information in order to hack into your bank accounts and steal your money.

#1: 844-703-0621 - Scammer offering vacation giveaway

The most common call Genie has blocked recently is from a scammer claiming that “your telephone number was selected to receive a complimentary stay in a five-star hotel”. If you don't have Genie to block these calls on your behalf, make sure you hang up immediately and block them manually as this is just the latest way that scammers are trying to get you to share your personal information and credit card number with them.
